A little bit about us and our
dogs
Our names are John and Michelle Kalligher. We live on 2 acres
of land in Shakopee, MN, which is located in the Minneapolis/St.
Paul metropolitan area and overlooks the beautiful Minnesota River
Valley. There, we care for 6 Bulldogs, and our litters of puppies
when we're lucky enough to have some.
Although we've had dogs all of our lives, Wrinkles was our
first Bulldog. We bought Wrinkles in 1998 for our son John. Of
course, as most parents know, a pet purchased for a child becomes
the responsibility of the parent, and Wrinkles soon became our
dog.
We soon fell in love with the Bulldog breed. They're
expressive, fun, great with children, great with adults, easy to
care for, and quite a conversation piece. Taking a bulldog out for
a walk is sure to produce looks of interest and joy from people you
pass, smiles and excitement from children, and a general sense of
pride and companionship in you and your dog.
In August of 2004, after intense research, we found that one of
the top breeders in the country had a show prospect available,
Cherokee Happy Jack. "Jack" was purchased from Cody Sickle's
Cherokee Bulldogs on Long Island, New York. Of course, we were
extremely excited to travel from Minnesota to New York to pick Jack
up, and what a treat. Seeing him for the first time it was obvious
that he was an excellent dog from a long line of excellent dogs.
Jack's dad is the famous Ch. Legacy Only Calvin Klein.
Calvin has produced 12 champions
at last count, has won 62 Best In Specialty Show, more than
any bulldog ever, and has won 5 Best in Shows. In addition,
Calvin was the winningest bulldog in the U.S. in 2003 and
2004. With the acquisition of Ch. Cherokee Happy Jack, the
foundation dog we had hoped for was found.
In January of 2005, at only 9 months Jack entered his first
show and took Reserve Winners Dog, the next day he took Winners Dog
and Best of Winners. Jack finished his championship 9 months later
at 18 months old.
On that same trip to Long Island we came back with our first
female Bulldog, Ethelred's Jolly Jill. "Jill" is out of excellent
lines from the excellent breeder Ellen Redavid at Ethelred
Bulldogs, and is sired by Ch. Cali-DiToro's Good-time Charlie. We
will be breeding Jack and Jill in the near future.
In August of 2005 we acquired a second female, a show prospect
from respected breeder Connie Chambers of Legend Bulldogs. Her name
is Cherokee Legend White Feather. "Feather" is another all white
Bulldog with a patch over her right eye. In Feather's very first
show she took Winners Bitch, and the next day Reserve Winners
Bitch. Thus, we are hopeful she may finish as quickly as Jack did.
We have high hopes that Jack and Feather will also produce show
quality puppies when bred
Since then we've acquired two more girls. First, Reingold
Kalligher's Foxy Roxi, then Ch. DiToro's Ethelred Bella Wolfe. Now
we have a total of 6 bulldogs at our house. Roxi is a daughter of
our champion, Jack. She's a beautiful brindle piebald with a
personality that won't quit. We also have become a co-owner in a
champion girl, Bella. Bella was owned by Jill's breeder, Ellen Rich
of Ethelred Bulldogs. She's a wonderful breeder and Bella is a
beautiful bulldog.
We look forward to breeding the best, and being a source of
information to those interested in this fun and noble breed. Please
contact us with any questions you may have.
Sincerely,
Michelle & John Kalligher
